Comprehension in an Active Literacy Classroom
Comprehension in
an Active Literacy Classroom Literacy is a social act.
Active literacy is not about answering those end-of-chapter
"comprehension" questions. Active reading involves an
ongoing process of evolving thinking. When active readers
read, they merge their thinking with the txt, questioning,
inferring, connecting and synthesizing. they have an inner
conversation with the written words, responding with delight,
wonder, even outrage. Active learners take their thinking
public, talking and writing to learn and understand. When
we teach kids to interact with the teacher, the text and each
other, they learn, understand and remember like never before.
