KEYNOTE SPEAKER

DR. MATT LARSON
DO WE HAVE AN "ACHIEVEMENT" GAP - OR AN "INSTRUCTIONAL" GAP

Do we know anything from research that can help us close the achievement gap?  The answer is yes, and this session will dispel persistent myths and examine important findings from the research community that can be implemented in schools and districts to close the instructional gap.

Dr. Matt Larson is author-in-residence at Houghton Mifflin Company, having served as the K-12 curriculum specialist for mathematics for Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, NE.  He is past chair of NCTM's research committee and he is a frequent speaker at state and national math conferences.

Dr. Larson has taught mathematics at the elementary through college level and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he has taught in both the Mathematics Department and the College of Education.  He has co-authored a number of papers that have appeared in journals such as the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education.
