DAVID M. SHWARTZ
PUTTING THE "WONDER" BACK IN
WONDERFUL: MATHEMATICAL
LITERATURE TO INSPIRE AND INFORM
The author of 50 math and science
books for children shows how his own
childhood sense of wonder led to the
books he now writes, and he
encourages teachers to nurture
similar enthusiasms in children.
Nothing thrills David more than
students who are inspired by his
books to raise questions and develop
strategies to find answers.
David will share their results -
always impressive, often surprising,
and something hilarious.
David M. Schwrartz writes children's
books that reflect interests he has
had since childhood. He
especially has a love of numbers and
nature. He says he is
fascinated by both the biggest and
smallest things in the universe.
When he writes his books, he tries
to do it in a whimsical way to make
sure his ideas are exciting and fun.
David spends a lot of time in
elementary and middle schools as
well as he is a speaker at many
conferences for educators.
Before David began writing
children's books, he was an
elementary school teacher, a
journalist, a writing instructor,
and a Residential College Dean at
Yale University.
David's first book, published in
1985, was How Much Is A Million?
He had to rewrite the book twelve
times before he felt it was good
enough to submit to publishers!
The first seventeen publishers
rejected the book; the eighteenth
publisher said, "We love it?"
This was the beginning of a very
successful career in writing
children's books. Some of his
other published books are:

If You Made A Million

On Beyond A Million
