This
session has a broad application:
Special Education, ESL, mainstream
teachers, music appreciation
teachers, and P.E. teachers. This
session offers a blend of
understanding social aspects of
present day Latin culture with the
exercise element. Applications are
as varied as language and social
studies teachers teaching units on
Spanish culture to Special Ed
teachers offering enrichment units
with a focus on muscle memory and
body movement. This class will
acquaint teachers with 5 major
music/dance Latin styles: salsa,
merengue, cumbia, bachata and
raeggeton as well as inform them
about popular performers in each of
the 5 styles and where to get the
best music.
Participants will be able to:
-
Identify 5 major
Latin music styles
-
Develop a muscle
memory for basic steps of 5
major Latin dance styles and
their adaptations
-
Put together a
unit adapting the skills learned
in class to their subject/grade
level
