Who's in Control Here, Anyway? Help
for Classroom Teachers Who Have
AD/HD Students in the Classroom
Jackie Vick, Caledonia, MN
vick@sgwb.coop
Of
course we have students with AD/HD
in our classrooms. But where did we
learn how to help them? This course
will provide you with information,
guides and resources that you can
easily implement into your classroom
from Day 1. This course is
fun-filled and fast-paced but will
cover a wide variety of topics
including practical ways to improve
your student’s skills with
organization, homework completion,
focus and study skills. We’ll also
learn strategies to help your
students deal with emotions, make
and keep friends, manage anxiety,
etc.
You will leave with checklists to
monitor behaviors and the
effectiveness of medication, as well
as guides for your students on how
to organize their materials, how to
study for tests and helpful hints on
organizing for writing papers.
The major form of assessment will be
a compilation of the information,
tools and resources you will acquire
in this course. You will leave with
a valuable binder serving as a
primary tool which you will use in
your classroom over and over again.
Your AD/HD students will be so
thankful that you took this class
and will reward you with increased
focus and performance!
Participants will list the learning
characteristics generally associated
with students with AD/HD and the
legislation and litigation that
impacts providing these students
with an education. Participants will
compile a resource binder of
technological resources, information
and teaching materials/ideas and use
characteristic descriptions of AD/HD
students to create appropriate
accommodations to meet the needs of
students with this disorder.
