anelson@ashland.k12.wi.us
Dyslexia is an inherited condition
that affects the reading, writing,
and spelling of 20% of our school
population.
This course is designed to help
teachers become familiar with the
warning signs and symptoms of
dyslexia in children and adults.
Brain research, warning signs,
formal and informal identification,
instruction of dyslexic students,
and classroom accommodations will be
explored in depth.
Local expert, Dr. Deb Olufs from the
Gundersen Lutheran Children’s
Comprehensive Child Care Center will
also be a resource speaker.
Participants will:
-
Recognize the
warning signs of dyslexia
-
Become familiar
with formal and informal
assessments to determine
dyslexia
-
Increase
understanding of tutoring
materials that will help a
dyslexic student in the
classroom
-
Learn how to
accommodate a dyslexic student
in the classroom
