An alarming number of young children
with challenging behaviors are
entering our schools and child care
settings. Research suggests that
children who are identified as “hard
to manage” at ages 3 or 4 have a
high probability of continuing to
have difficulties in adolescence,
and when aggressive/antisocial
behavior persists to age 9,
intervention has a poor chance of
success. As their teachers, we’re
expected to teach academics but with
the interference of the challenging
behaviors, we many times don’t even
know where to begin! This workshop
will provide research based,
practical strategies you can use to
prevent challenging behaviors and
promote social emotional competence
in young children. Participants will
leave with a better understanding of
why challenging behaviors are
exhibited in young children and what
they can do to problem solve,
prevent and reduce these behaviors.
This workshop is based on the
evidenced-based practices promoted
by the Center for Social and
Emotional Foundations for Early
Learning (CSEFEL) and is consistent
with the philosophy and practices of
the School-Wide Positive Behavior
Intervention and Support (PBIS)
initiative.
