It's Not That Hard-How to Better
Meet the Needs of Your ELLS
Kourtney Feldhausen, Howard-Suamico
School District, DePere, WI
kourfeld@hssd.k12.wi.us
This
workshop will challenge content area
and ELL teachers to look at the
teaching and learning strategies,
lessons, and units of instruction
they are using with their English
Language Learners. Come prepared
with current benchmarks, lessons,
and units and learn how you can
better meet the needs of your
students by modifying lessons and
differentiating instruction. This
workshop will help you identify the
different needs and learning styles
of ELLs and discover many ways that
instructional strategies and
educational programs can be adapted
to meet students’ motivational and
English learning needs.
The cultural background, family
life, and values of our ELL
students, and other students from
diverse backgrounds, can
significantly impact their readiness
for learning in a school setting.
This workshop will help both regular
classroom and content teachers
better understand the needs of
students from diverse backgrounds,
evaluate current teaching practices
and make adjustments that will meet
your specific classroom needs. Be
ready to have fun and be creative as
you get a binder full of ideas to
take back to your classroom and
school.
