Digital Cameras and Photography

Ever
wonder what that “doohickey” and the
“whatchamacallit” on your digital
camera are for? Have you been
frustrated by the bewildering array
of controls, buttons, and menus on
your camera? The camera manual is
confusing and you don’t know where
to start learning it?
Then this workshop is for you. We
will explore digital still cameras
and learn the physical terrain of
the controls, practice shooting
using a variety of camera functions,
and digitally manipulate the images
into finished photographs using
computers.
The course will equip you to create
better photos and teach others how
to more effectively take charge of
their digital cameras. Topics
covered in the workshop will
include: white balance, ISO,
auto-focus, shutter speeds,
aperture, jpg vs. RAW, exposure
compensation, and computer image
processing.
Workshop participants must provide
their own Digital Single Lens Reflex
(DSLR) camera. (A point-and-shoot
digital camera will not be
appropriate due to its limited
controls.) Participants must also
bring the camera’s USB cord and
extra digital cards (Compact
Flash, Memory Stick, xD, SD, etc.)
to assure adequate capacity for
shooting during the week.
Participants will understand the
digital camera landscape through
practice, learn to digitally
manipulate images on the computer,
and produce a finished product in
hardcopy and digital versions.
