A
Green Approach: Bring More Art Into
Your Classroom Without Breaking Your
Budget
Angela Stefferud-Johnson, West Salem
Elementary, West Salem, WI
ajohnson@wsalem.k12.wi.us
Learn a variety of art techniques
that can be applied to any subject
area. Enhance the curriculum you are
already using with hands-on art
projects that are adaptable to ANY
age level or ability, all the while
using items most people would
consider “JUNK.”
This workshop makes connections to
areas such as math, science,
reading, and social studies as well
as school wide or community
projects. Participants will use
recycled and donated materials and
come away with a variety of
resources to help stretch the
classroom budget. By using mostly
recycled and donated materials, you
will create several projects to take
home and/or use as samples or
inspiration in your own classroom.
Collaboration and idea exchange are
welcome and encouraged during this
workshop. We can all learn together,
working hands-on trying new things.
Art is a great way to use and
strengthen problem solving skills
and inspire creativity in everyone.
This will be a hands-on experience
incorporating many art-making
techniques and materials.
Participants will also make
connections between art and core
content areas, using art to enhance
existing units and curriculum,
working both individually and
collaboratively to generate ideas.
