WILD BLUE YONDER MEETS THE CLASSROOM
Gary Russell, Ralph Whiting, Jerry Bertilson, & David Snyder, La Crosse Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol
djlbson@execpc.com

This workshop will use aerospace educational themes to provide teachers with knowledge and practical applications to support student leaning in science and social studies.

Capitalize on students' sense of adventure and natural interest in airplanes and flying to encourage their engagement in content areas.  Workshop participants will gain a wealth of curriculum ideas, lessons, activities, and instructional materials that relate to aerospace education and multiple content areas.

Participants will have an opportunity to fly over the Coulee Region, learn to use GPS technology, tour airport facilities and participate in many hands-on activities that relate directly to multiple content areas.  Each participant will be able to apply workshop content to his/her specific grade level and subject areas.

Activities will include classroom discussions, multi-media presentations, field trips to an airport control tower, La Crosse Civil Air Patrol Headquarters and Sparta's Deke Slayton Museum, flight simulator, and optional flight over the Coulee Region (pending weather and aircraft availability), aerial visual interpretation of landforms of the Coulee Region, review of available curriculum materials, guest speakers, Internet applications and video programs. Participants will create lessons to be used in their classrooms.
