WILD BLUE YONDER MEETS THE CLASSROOM

This workshop will use aerospace
educational themes to provide
teachers with knowledge and
practical applications to support
student leaning in science and
social studies.
Capitalize on students' sense of
adventure and natural interest in
airplanes and flying to encourage
their engagement in content areas.
Workshop participants will gain a
wealth of curriculum ideas, lessons,
activities, and instructional
materials that relate to aerospace
education and multiple content
areas.
Participants will have an
opportunity to fly over the Coulee
Region, learn to use GPS technology,
tour airport facilities and
participate in many hands-on
activities that relate directly to
multiple content areas. Each
participant will be able to apply
workshop content to his/her specific
grade level and subject areas.
Activities will include classroom
discussions, multi-media
presentations, field trips to an
airport control tower, La Crosse
Civil Air Patrol Headquarters and
Sparta's Deke Slayton Museum, flight
simulator, and optional flight over
the Coulee Region (pending weather
and aircraft availability), aerial
visual interpretation of landforms
of the Coulee Region, review of
available curriculum materials,
guest speakers, Internet
applications and video programs.
Participants will create lessons to
be used in their classrooms.
