MATH EXPRESSIONS: AN INTRODUCTION TO
YOUR NEW MATH ADOPTION
Pat Koniecki, Racine Unified School
District
pat.koniecki@racine.k12.wi.us
Would you like to get a head start
on planning next year's math
activities? Are you trying to
decide if Math Expressions
is right for your district? In
this session, we will explore
Houghton Mifflin's great new math
program, Math Expressions.
We will use objects, drawings,
conceptual language, and real-world
situations to help build
mathematical ideas that make sense
to kids.
Each day, we will break into grade
level groups and explore specific
activities using the actual
materials. You'll pick up some
great hands-on activities that will
enhance any math program.
In the K-5 large group, we will also
look at each of the math strands.
This will enable you to see how your
grade fits into the total pictured
by seeing what is taught in other
grades. This hands-on math
workshop will give you the
opportunity to network with other
teachers at your grade level, and
you will leave with lots of ideas
and materials.
Participants last year agreed:
"This workshop was excellent!
I feel much more confident in a
split grade situation."
