Are you looking for ways to ignite
your students' interest in history?
Challenge them to think about
history in new and meaningful ways!
Middle school and high school
teachers as well as school
librarians and media people are
invited to participate in a unique
workshop linking National History
Day (NHD) with the Library of
Congress American Memory Project, a
website with over ten million
primary sources. An all-star
presenter team will share ways to
use these programs to enhance
student interest and motivation
through primary sources, while
providing them with powerful tools
to prepare for National History Day
competitions.
Participants will learn how to
navigate American Memory online
collections, develop search
strategies, cite sources, develop a
management system to organize
primary source collections, and
visit two area archives.
Guidance in using NHD categories of
historical papers, performances,
media documentaries, website
development and exhibits will also
be included. Based on the 2009
NHD theme of "ndividuals in
History,' seminar members will
develop and present curriculum
projects stored on UDRW drives for
later classroom use.
