WHAT CAN WE LEARN FORM ...
GARBAGE?!
Bonnie Jancik & Kathy Stevenson,
UW-La Crosse
Jancik.bonn@uwlax.edu
or
stevenso.kath@uwlax.edu
What can we learn from the garbage
we throw out? Or the garbage
left behind hundreds or even
thousands of years ago?
Explore the fascinating world of
archaeology, where we bring the past
to life by studying tools, trash,
and other clues people leave behind.
Hands-on activities, inviting
lessons, and a field trip will
introduce you to how archaeologists
work and what they've learned so far
about our Coulee Region. From
"garbology" (interpreting trash) to
mapping and recording information,
you'll also experience fun, creative
activities that engage students'
interest and meet academic standards
in multiple content areas, such as
social studies (behavioral science,
history), science (inquiry), math
(measurement), language arts
(non-fiction writing), and art
(visual design and production).
Participants will receive Project
Archaeology training and classroom
resources.
NOTE: A grant from the
Bureau of Land Management-Eastern
States Cultural Heritage Program
will pay for EITHER the $50
registration fee OR 1 graduate
credit, first come, fist served
basis. Limited funds!
