SUCCESS FOR STRUGGLING READERS THROUGH MULTI-SENSORY READING INSTRUCTION
Arlene Sonday, Educational Consultant, St. Paul, MN
sonday@sprynet.com

NOTE: All learning plans, word lists, flash cards and manipulatives are included in a non-consumable $400 package, provided at no extra charge through a special grant and a gift from Dave and Barb Skogen, Festival Foods.

Are you looking for practical, reliable techniques to help your struggling readers learn to read?  The Sonday System, which follows the research recommendations of the National Institute of Health (NIH) offers practical, proven strategies for helping students who fall behind their classmate using traditional methods.  It has been used successfully in classrooms around the world and can easily be used with the Four Block approach.

The Sonday System helps readers by teaching to their learning strengths - auditory, visual or kinesthetic - while strengthening weaknesses.  It is a system that translates national and state standards into tools, training, and testing.

The presentation of new material is balanced with a review of previously presented sounds, words an sentences to insure that students master all they learn.  Parents, volunteers and tutors can readily use this program to reinforce and support work done in the classroom.

The workshop will include demonstrations, role playing, and opportunities for teachers to practice with children.   Participants will learn how to interpret tests and translate results into instructional strategies.

*Paras attending this workshop must attend as part of a team.

Overall workshop rating at Washburn 2007 - 3.67 (4 point scale).
