THE FOUR BLOCKS WAY: GUIDED
READING AND MORE
Pam Esselman, West Bend
pesselman@west-bend.k12.wi.us
This course will offer the basics of
the Four Blocks Literacy Model and
much more. It is designed both
for teachers new to the Four Blocks
Literacy Model and for the
experienced teacher interested in
enhancing the guided reading block.
Class participants will learn each
of the four blocks and explore ideas
for connecting the blocks and using
the Four Blocks Model with their
current curriculum. Share
strategies for designing a Four
Blocks schedule that works best for
you. Often the guided reading
block is the most challenging
component to implement effectively.
This course will place a special
emphasis on activating the guided
reading block. New reading
activities, comprehension
strategies, and a materials review
will be provided.
Past participants agree: "Pam
does an excellent job blending
research/theory with practical
strategies for the classroom."
and "This is the best class I
ever attended. I would
recommend it to all primary
teachers. Pam went above and
beyond my expectation."
Overall workshop rating at Sally
Ride Academy 2007 - 3.92 (4 point
scale).
