FOUR BLOCKS FOR THE UPPER GRADES
Carol Murphy, West Bend &
Jennifer Beck, West Bend
cmurphy@west-bend.k12.wi.us
or
jbeck@west-bend.k12.wi.us
This course will offer the basics of
the Four Blocks Literacy Model and
much more. It is designed both
for teachers new to the Four Blocks
Literacy Model and for the
experienced teacher interested in
enhancing the guided reading block.
Learn the goals of each of the four
blocks. Class participants
will explore ideas for connecting
the blocks to each other and ideas
for connecting the Four Blocks Model
to their current curriculum and
classroom. Share strategies
for designing a Four Blocks schedule
that works best for you. Often
teachers find the guided reading
block is the most challenging
component to implement effectively.
This course will place a special
emphasis on activating the guided
reading block. New reading
activities, comprehension
strategies, and a materials review
will be provided.
