EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES FOR
HELPING YOUNG CHILDREN WITH
CHALLENGING BEHAVIOR
Julaine Brandsoy, Holmen
brajul@holmen.k12.wi.us
An alarming number of young children
with violent and challenging
behaviors are entering our schools
and child care settings.
Research suggests that children who
are identified as "hard to manage"
at ages 3 or 4 have a high
probability of continuing to have
difficulties in adolescence, and
when aggressive/antisocial behavior
persists to age 9, intervention has
a poor chance of success.
There is good news - evidence-based
practices are effective in changing
this developmental trajectory.
In this workshop, participants will
examine evidence-based,
user-friendly practices and
strategies to promote healthy social
and emotional development and meet
the needs of children with
challenging behaviors in early care
and education settings.
Content will be based upon the
Training Modules published by the
Center on the Social and Emotional
Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL)
a federally-funded project housed at
Vanderbilt University.
