UNDERSTANDING AUTISM SPECTRUM
DISORDERS
INSTRUCTOR(S):
Tara Tuchel,
Hudson School District
GRADE LEVEL: Pre K-5
Increasing numbers of children with
autism spectrum disorders are found
in today's classrooms. As a
result, there is an urgent need for
school professionals to better
understand autism and its
implications in schools and society
as a whole. Participants in
this class will gain the knowledge
needed to become active and informed
team members and advocates for
students with autism spectrum
disorders and will learn effective
strategies to enhance communication,
socialization and learning when
teaching these children. This
is a valuable opportunity for
teachers, special educators, speech
pathologists, counselors, classroom
aides and school psychologists.
