CHILDREN'S ENGINEERING & DESIGN
TECHNOLOGY
INSTRUCTOR(S): Gina Sarow and Cara
Holicky, Unity School District
GRADE LEVEL(S): K-4
Children learn best when they are
actively participating in the
learning process. Children’s
Engineering integrates engineering
and design technology with science,
math, literature, reading and
writing, social studies, and
invention. When children work as
designers, they gain experience
drawing, planning, problem-solving,
building, testing, and improving
their solutions. Such processes
allow for a variety of inquiry
skills, experiences and knowledge
appropriate for all learners.
Teachers in grades K-4 will learn
useful strategies for orchestrating
design technology experiences. Many
hands-on examples and lessons will
be shared giving teachers a wealth
of ideas to bring back to the
classroom.
