HANDS-ON/MINDS-ON SCIENCE FOR YOUNG
CHILDREN
INSTRUCTOR(S):
David Stokes,
Naturalist &
Michelle Harmon,
Schlitz Audubon Center
GRADE LEVEL: PK-2
CREDIT: 2
Through the use of songs, stories,
riddles, live animals, animal
artifacts (biofacts), indoor and
outdoor investigations, plant
discovery and biology, participants
will take a hands-on/minds-on
approach to science with young
children. The focus will be on
practical teaching techniques,
natural science information, and
ecological principles as they relate
to young children and the season of
summer. Ideas will be shared
for incorporating the seasons of
fall, winter and spring into the
young child's curriculum in
scientific ways. Participants
will make and take projects to be
used immediately in the classroom.
