BEST PRACTICE IN MIDDLE AND
SECONDARY MATHEMATICS

This course is designed to provide
participants with the opportunity to
plan for the implementation of a
standards-based, student-centered
math curriculum. Aspects of
lesson planning, classroom
management and student assessment
will be considered.
By
the end of the course, participants
will be able to:

Create learning experiences
that make understanding of
mathematics and inquiry in
mathematics meaningful
to a variety of students
with a wide range of ability
and interest. |

Create learning experiences
that meet the mathematics
standards for their
districts. |
|
|
Create sample lesson plans
for at least two of the
units in the standards-based
program chosen. |
|
|
Explain the objective of the
lesson, how it was
approached in a traditional
program, and how the lesson
will be
handled differently in the
standards-based program. |
|
|
Present information relating
to change that will improve
student learning and change
teacher instruction. |
|
|
Develop a method for sharing
their creative thoughts with
others in the class and with
other teachers in their
building and/or district.

options, will be explored. |
