What would life be like for you had
your 6th grade teacher taught you
about investing? Unfortunately
few of us have been exposed to
personal finance education because
it's not a requirement in most of
our nation's schools. Many
teachers are simply reluctant to
introduce it into the classroom due
to unfamiliarity with the new
material. And finally, merging
finance education into an already
packed day is problematic.
How complicated our lives have
become. There was a time when
employer funded pensions was the
expectation. Today the
responsibility lies with us when
deciding which investment options
are best for our 401K plans.
Not too long ago reasonable interest
rates provided our bank savings with
acceptable returns.
Discouraged by the low rates of
return banks have offered, we've had
to look elsewhere to grow our nest
eggs.
Perhaps some personal financial
crises could be avoided or lesser
problems alleviated by a better
understanding of how our economy
works. Personal Finance
Education: Changing What We Teach,
Changing What We Learn offers some
solutions to limited class time and
unfamiliar content.
Participants in this workshop also
will learn about other finance
education programs, games and
contests.
