Differentiation... what's in it for
me? Regular Education and
Special Education professionals will
explore this question from the
perspective of both teacher and
student. Specific to the
standards, content knowledge and
skills our secondary students must
learn, our group will play with and
develop concrete plans for
delivering and supporting secondary
literature curriculum and
instruction so as to meet the needs
of diverse learners and teachers.
Interest Inventories, Flexible
Grouping, Tiered Assignments,
Project Menus, Compacting and
Socratic Questioning will be among
many specific strategies experienced
and applied to the secondary
literature setting.
Understanding by Design (UbD) will
also be introduced as a tool for
promoting deep understanding and
differentiated instruction linked to
standards. Most importantly,
participants will leave with
personal plans for implementation
and hopefully, an answer to the
original question.
