DIFFERENTIATED TEACHING MODEL FOR
INTERMEDIATE READERS

In this course, participants will
learn how to differentiate reading
instruction across the curriculum
using an explicit, research-based
framework that focuses on useful
strategy instruction, systematic
vocabulary instruction, and engaging
fluency activities to increase
student achievement.
Additionally, participants will
learn small-group classroom
management techniques and how to use
assessment in order to effectively
differentiate in all areas of the
curriculum.
Participants will:

Understand and respond to
the differences of teachers
making their students feel
welcome and having a good
learning experience; |

Recognize and develop
lessons which meet the needs
of readers at the evolving,
maturing, and advanced
stages; |

Identify the components of
the Small-Group
Differentiated Reading Model
and develop activities that
reflect
those components; |

Develop a variety of
on-going assessments for use
with all levels of students; |

Develop an understanding of
how to manage small-group
instruction in
self-contained and
departmentalized
classrooms.
