BUILDING A MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY
~ Multicultural
Issues in the K-12 Classroom
INSTRUCTOR:
Dr. Thomas F. McEvilly III,
Education Consultant
GRADE LEVEL: K-12
CREDIT: 2 or 3
The multicultural issues facing
today's student, teacher, staff, and
administration include the
following: What is culture?
What is family? What's the
difference between a melting pot and
tapestry concept? How do we
deal with stereotypes, hate, racism,
and bashing? What is the
difference between an economic
refugee and political refugee? This
class prepares classroom teachers,
English as a Second Language
teachers, social workers, guidance
counselors, administrators, and
others to apply a multicultural
perspective to classroom activities
and to work toward resolution of
community problems centering on
cultural conflict.
This class will address Asian,
African, Latino/Hispanic, and Native
American cultural perspectives.
This class also includes issues
regarding the disabilities, gender,
orientation, and the current changes
and multicultural classifications.
Plan for lots of walking. This
class goes out, almost daily, to see
multiculture in our society.
