ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AT WORK IN THE
CLASSROOM
INSTRUCTORS:
Nicole Gosser & Lori Marso,
West Allis/West Milwaukee School
District
GRADE LEVEL: PK-12
CREDIT: 2 or 3
What can you do for a student who is
struggling in your classroom?
This class will help both regular
and special education teachers
explore the field of assistive
technology and identify ways to help
struggling students increase
achievement levels. Different
areas of assistive technology such
as writing, communication, reading,
studying, and math will be examined.
Factors contributing to the
successful use of various devices
and tools will be identified
including the use of assistive
technology to support children on
the Autism spectrum.
Come and explore products designed
to assist students to be successful.
Participants in this hands-on class
will try a variety of software
products and other tools designed to
provide accommodations and/or
adaptations that will enable
students to be more independent and
efficient. Boardmaker, The
Writer, and Premier Technology are
just a few of the technologies that
will be integrated into this class.
Teachers will be able to
"make-and-take" items to use with
their students as well as design
and/or remodel lesson plans that
incorporate assistive technology.
