USE YOUR LUNCH TO TEACH EARTH
SCIENCE
INSTRUCTOR(S): Bart Kotarba,
Northwoods Wildlife Center
GRADE LEVEL: 3-8
Many students collect
interesting rocks. We will expand on this natural
curiosity to discover what these rocks have to say about the
processes that created them and the history of life on our
planet. We will use everyday items in activities to build
understanding. For example, the layers of a sandwich can
help student understand the way geologist can read the layers of
a rock. This workshop will be taught by a life-long "rock
picker" with just enough enthusiasm to be dangerous! In
hands-on activities, you will identify mineral samples based on
their properties, clean and prepare a fossil, grow your own
crystals, create an acid test for calcite and more.
Participants will take home their own box of rocks and minerals
to use as a classroom resource.
NOTE:
This workshop will be presented via
interactive television. Please
list your preferred site on the
registration form.
