SECOND STEP AND STICKS 'N STONES
INSTRUCTOR(S): Lynn Laska & Dave Kunelius,
CESA #9
GRADE LEVEL: PK-9
The "Sticks 'n Stones
Bullying Prevention Curriculum" is an important resource for
elementary and middle school teachers. These curricular
units explore the key knowledge, skills and suppositions needed
to develop a school free of bullying behavior. Students
will explore issues such as the friend who bullies, ways to use
comebacks that work, skills needed to build a bully-free school,
and practice lessons on being a bystander that can make a
difference. The curriculum has helpful resources in
developing policy, communicating with parents and knowing what
the research has to say about the impact of bullying on the
victim, bystander and perpetrator. "Second Step" is a
pre-K-9th grade research based curriculum that helps reduce
impulsive behavior in children, teaches social and emotional
skills and builds on self-esteem. This training will
include hands-on experience and practice with the Second Step
curriculum and opportunities to discuss implementation.
