Become a superhero to your students by bringing some FAB 5 activities back to your classroom this fall. #1 SPACE-Learn to engineer a NASA egress (emergency escape) device as well as a thermal protection system. Participate in a Mars Journey simulation and learn Newton’s laws through air-powered rocketry. #2 TECHNOLOGY/PODCASTING-discover what all the buzz about podcasting entails, explore sound files through the free software Audacity, and create a pod-cast of your very own. #3 NANOTECHNOLOGY- Work through a life science-nanotechnology lab investigation and participate in a differentiated science literacy activity. Explore nano-textiles and learn about how this amazing technology is already affecting your life. #4 FORENSIC SCIENCE-Energize your curriculum with lessons on deductive reasoning including fingerprinting, ballistics, blood analysis, and document forgery. #5 ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & SCIENCE NOTE-BOOKING-Participate in several environmental, hands-on activities and simulations, and synthesize the information through “science note-booking.”

Objectives:

· Teachers understand the subject matter. They will learn content appropriate for middle level science in each of the Fab 5 categories. This includes content such as Newton’s Laws of Motion, biomimicry, water quality, spread of disease, etc.

· Teachers adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils through the diversity of activities we have selected to touch the wide range of learners in your classrooms. Activities include differentiated instruction, auditory, kinesthetic, visual, artistic, technology.

· Teachers use a variety of instructional strategies, including technology, to develop problem-solving skills. Teachers will create a pod-cast and research using the Internet to solve problems.
