GGA10-12:  "JUST-IN-TIME" BEHAVIORAL PROJECT

INSTRUCTOR(S): Dr. Eric P. Hartwig , ehartwig@dwave.net
GRADE LEVEL: PreK-K
(3-Day Workshop, Monday-Wednesday, Registration Fee $350)

The "Just-In-Time" Behavioral Project (JITB) is designed to help rethink discipline.  Key ideas behind the program include:

bullet

Prevention is the first response to challenging behavior and crisis;

bullet

Discipline is an opportunity to help students learn new skills and replacement behaviors;

bullet

Encouraging  a sense of community responsibility and problem solving are more important than compliance and obedience;

bullet

Strategies and behavior intervention plans do not fulfill basic human needs - only relationships do; and

bullet

There are no easy or quick fixes.  Individual and systemic changes take time, commitment and introspection.
