DITEP was
developed by the International
Association of Chief of Police and
the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration. The goal of the
program is to enable educational
professionals to identify chemically
impaired students for the purpose of
ensuring a safe learning
environment. In addition,
participants will be better able to
recognize different drugs and
understand the physical signs and
symptoms associated with each drug
category. DITEP will not certify
participants to be drug recognition
experts, but it will help educators
evaluate and document students
suspected of drug use at school, and
help them appropriately. Schools
with educators who are trained in
DITEP report a reduction in drug use
at school.
