This two-day
workshop is based on the book "A
Framework for Understanding Poverty,
" by Ruby K. Payne, PhD. The
workshop will provide participants
with an understanding of the culture
of poverty and its impact on the
learning styles of Students.
Day One: A
Framework for Understanding Poverty
covers how economic class affects
behaviors and mindsets; the impact
of generational poverty; the hidden
rules among economic classes;
interventions, strategies and
techniques for effective
interactions; and the 8 resources
that make a difference in success.
Day Two:
Learning Structures and
Interventions for Supporting
Students, cover how to use
visual/mental models effectively to
develop cognitive capacity;
strategies for teaching content
related vocabulary; strategies that
enable students to complete academic
tasks and sort important
information; and how to design
lessons that are effective in
meeting the needs of students in
poverty.
