PD8: THE MORE YOU KNOW:
CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP BY
EMPOWERING STUDENTS' THINKING!
INSTRUCTOR(S):
Susan Mirsky & Marcia Kotz,
Kenosha Unified School District
GRADE LEVEL: K-12
We know the power teachers hold in
changing the lives of students.
If districts are to close their
achievement gaps, it will happen one
classroom at a time. Indeed,
the power to do this important work
lies in the hands of teachers.
Our time together will first be
spent reading and dialoging on
important pieces of educational
philosophy. As we examine our
mindsets, we will also begin to
reflect on the work we do in the
classroom. How do we use the
daily resources within our
classrooms to develop a sense of
belonging? To empower our
students? To help our students
be critical thinkers?
Participants will learn high quality
instructional practices that
positively change the lives of
students.
