PD9:  "FOCUSING ON LEARNING" PUTTING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES TO WORK IN YOUR SCHOOL!

INSTRUCTOR(S): KUSD Staff, Kenosha Unified School District
GRADE LEVEL: K-12

The idea of creating learning communities in your school is the rave, not to mention best practice!  Rick, Becky Dufour's and Bob Eaker's Professional Learning Community model shifts the focus from teaching to learning.  Come learn how to apply the principles; "ensuring that students learn, creating a culture of collaboration for school improvement, and focusing on results" in order to connect teachers to your school's efforts to make sure that all students learn!  In addition to the three principles, participants will also explore four critical questions:

bullet

"What do we want each student to learn?"

bullet

"How will we know when each student has learned it?"

bullet

"How will we respond when a student experiences difficulty in learning?"

bullet

"How will we respond when a student already knows it?"

So id you are new to creating learning communities in your school or a current practitioner, grab a pen and a colleague or two and get ready for a challenging and rewarding journey into the heart of establishing learning communities in your school.  After all, we learn best by doing!
