S1:
ANIMALS ACROSS THE CURRICULUM
INSTRUCTOR(S):
Melissa Davidson & Elizabeth Rich,
Racine Zoo
GRADE LEVEL: K-5
The Racine Zoo's Curator of
Conservation Education and Animal
Care Supervisor will lead educators
on a journey to explore the Racine
Zoo. This course will provide
a unique understanding of zoos and
how to use the Racine Zoo as a
thirty-two acre classroom.
Emphasis will be placed on hands-on
Zoo activities that span the various
curriculum demands of elementary
school. The course is also
designed to help teachers develop
field trips to the Zoo that are more
than just "looking at animals"
as well as helping teachers to learn
strategies for teaching students
about ecosystems and animals.
Teachers will experience some up
close and personal encounters with
various Racine Zoo animals and take
a field trip to the Racine Zoo for a
very special tour as well as visit
another outdoor classroom!
Tuesday morning we may leave UWP at
7:00 a.m. for a field trip.
Class will be released an hour early
that day if we leave at 7:00 a.m.
This class is appropriate for grade
kindergarten through fifth.
