GRADE LEVEL: K-2
SUBJECT: Language Arts, Reading,
Writing
Students can be successful when they
are provided with high quality,
differentiated instruction.
Our job as teachers of writing is to
create classroom environments that
maximize engagement and learning.
The Writing Workshop will focus on
the Units of Study for Primary
Writer: Yearlong Curriculum written
by Lucy Calkins. The units of
study include Launching the
Workshop, Small Moments: Personal
Narratives, Writing for Readers:
Teaching Skills and Strategies,
Craft of Revision, Authors as
Mentors, Nonfiction: Procedures and
Reports and Poetry: Powerful
Thoughts in Tiny Packages.
Participants will learn how to write
strategic mini-lessons, confer with
students, assess student writing and
plan monthly units of study.
This course will offer
organizational techniques to develop
a structured workshop so your
students are writing independently
while you are conferring. The
participants will be actively
involved in the writing process.
This course includes student writing
samples, sample anchor charts, and
hands-on materials to prepare
participants to implement the
workshop in their classroom.
this course is a fun-filled,
energizing, "intense" training of
Writing Workshop!
"She will learn to love the way
words dance across the paper.
The way stories rest in the pocket
of her heart. She will
remember you forever as the one who
gave her the moon." (Ellen Kort)
