The 3 B's of Positive Behavior Management

INSTRUCTOR(S): Gary Mulry, Appleton Area School District Positive Behavior Support Specialist
GRADE LEVEL: K-8
SUBJECT: Behavior

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is a broad range of proactive, systemic, and individual strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes in safe and effective environments while preventing problem behavior with all students.  The course is designed to provide a collaborative and hands-on approach to developing behavioral curricular strands that will promote positive behaviors via shaping negative behaviors; thus providing an increased focus on academic strands in the educational setting.  The goal of the course will be to provide teachers with user friendly behavioral strategies and create/develop behavioral resources that will allow for effective classroom meetings, classroom social skills, and application of behavior skills learned in future settings for the students.  Teachers will complete their 2010-2011 Individualized Classroom behavior Matrix with support resources by the end of the course.

PBIS is utilized in 40 states and 13,000+ school districts in the United States and is recognized as the leading avenue in positive behavior outcomes.  The Appleton Area School District has 13 of its 26 schools implementing strands of PBIS.
